Being About Our Father's Business

Updated: Jul 29

"Did you not know that I must be about my Father's business?" Jesus, Luke 2:49 KJV

When Joseph and Mary spent days searching for 12 year old Jesus, they finally found him in the Temple engaged in conversations with the priests. Mary and Joseph were worried and anxiously searching for their "lost" son. But he was never "lost". He was in the Temple, about "his Father's business". While they were worried and concerned over the possibilities of what could have happened, Jesus was in His Father's house, doing what he was called to do. He responded to them, "Did you not know...?" (Luke 2:49)

Our world is in chaos and anxiety, worried about so many things: wars, elections, government policies, society changes... the list is endless. And as much as these things need our attention in prayer, our focus must remain on "being about our Father's business".

Jesus said, "I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work." John 9:4

Night is coming. We must work the works of Him who has called us and commissioned us with the gospel while we still have the light of day, and the freedom, to do so.

The church is arising in these last days to bring hope and salvation to the lost world.

"You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come.

"Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places.

"All these are the beginning of birth pains." Matthew 24:6-8

There is a shift coming upon the church, where we will be focused on our calling as the church in this day and hour and we will press through the distractions of the "birth pangs" of the world and be focussed on the works of the Gospel we have been called to do.

There is a shift of focus coming that will put the church into action. And we will see that the Gospel is not just words, but power. Lives will be impacted and changed for eternity as the church is mobilized in the power and anointing of the Holy Spirit.

What is stirring in your heart that is calling you to be about your Father's business?

If you were to separate all the cares and concerns of the world around you, what would you be passionate to do for God? Often your calling is calling you but the noise of the world around us drowns out that wooing into His plans and purposes.

Take some time right now to be quiet before the Lord and bring your thoughts into focus on Him. Then listen for what He is saying to you. Write down your thoughts. At this point, don't try to discern if it is God or your own voice, just write down what things you are hearing, seeing or sensing.

Then consider the things you wrote. Do they align with the Word of God? Do they witness with your spirit? If yes, consider them from the Lord and begin praying over them, agreeing with them and calling them into being.

This is the beginnings of you being about your Father's business.
