When the News Feels Heavy...
This week, I was watching the news. Not just one outlet, but flipping between several media platforms and reading headlines. It was overwhelming.
One story spoke of protests and violence. Another warned of looming war. Still another shared twisted truths—so many voices, opinions, and versions of reality that it made my heart feel heavy. Fear, confusion, and a deep ache for truth seemed to rise in me like a flood. And I realized... I’m not the only one feeling this way.
Maybe you’re like me—sensing the weight of the world more than usual. Maybe you've noticed how quickly fear creeps in when the headlines shout doom or deception. It’s not just what’s happening, but how the stories are being spun, manipulated, or hyped.
But as I sat with that heaviness, I was reminded of a moment in Scripture that brought a deep sense of perspective.
The Story of Elisha and the Invisible Army
In 2 Kings 6, Elisha and his servant woke up one morning to find themselves surrounded by an enemy army. The servant panicked. He cried out, “Oh no, my lord! What shall we do?”
Maybe you’ve felt like that servant—looking around at what's surrounding your life, your family, your nation, or even your mind, and wondering, “What can we do?”
But Elisha’s response was a teaching moment for his mentee.
“Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered.“Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”(2 Kings 6:16)
Elisha then prayed, “Lord, open his eyes so that he may see.” And suddenly, the servant's spiritual eyes were opened. What he saw was astonishing: the hills were full of horses and chariots of fire—all around Elisha.
It wasn’t the end. It was a spiritual setup for victory. It is time to pray for the Lord to open the eyes of our loved ones and believe for their suddenly.
When the World Feels Like It’s Closing In
That story reminds me that what we see in the natural—news, threats, fear, lies—is not the full story. There is a heavenly perspective, and God is still on the throne. Heaven’s armies have not gone quiet. Truth has not been lost. You and I are not helpless.
God doesn’t deny the reality of the battle. But He invites us to lift our eyes higher and see from a supernatural perspective. That’s why Scripture tells us:
“You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed...” (Matthew 24:6)“God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7)“Do not fear what they fear...” (Isaiah 8:12)
Encouragement for Today
If you're feeling heavy, you're not alone. But you are also not powerless.
Turn off the noise for a moment and turn your ear toward Heaven. God's Word is unchanging. His promises stand. And when you feel surrounded, know this: you are actually surrounded by Him.
Let’s pray:
“Lord, open our eyes to see what You’re doing. Quiet the chaos. Anchor our hearts in Your truth. Remind us that You are greater than the agendas, louder than the lies, and faithful through every storm. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
I believe you’re going to walk in peace—not panic. You’re going to rise with faith—not fear. And as you do, you’ll become a beacon of calm for others around you.
Hold your ground. Heaven is not silent. And neither should we be.
