From Firstfruits - a 31 day Devotional by Jane Watrich and Nellie O'Hara

“When He was at the table with them, He took the bread and blessed and broke it and gave it to them. Then their eyes were opened, and they recognized Him... They said to each other, “Did our hearts not burn within us as He spoke with us...” Luke 24:30, 31a, 32a ESV

In Luke 24, there was a lot of discouragement after Jesus’ death. The believing Jews had been looking for a Savior to save them from the government oppression, so when Jesus died their hopes of being rescued died with Him. They didn’t understand Jesus had a greater mission. He was coming as a Savior to save the whole world for eternity.

While the two men trudged along the road to Emmaus, feeling discouraged, hopeless and confused about the troubles of the past few days, Jesus stepped into their world, sharing the Scriptures and bringing revelation and understanding to them.

They were so enlightened and encouraged they said their hearts were burning within them. When Jesus broke bread with them, their eyes were opened to see Jesus.

The longer they spent with Jesus the more revelation and understanding they gained and the more joy and courage filled their hearts.

They had an epiphany.

Epiphanies are transforming, life-changing revelations. They produce hope, encouragement, faith and courage in our lives.

The word “epiphany” is defined in the Oxford dictionary as “a moment of sudden and great revelation or realization”. As we spend time with the Lord and His Word, the Spirit of Truth and Revelation opens our understanding of God, His love, His Truth, His plans and purposes.

January 6 is the day of Epiphany on the Christian calendar.

It’s a day that marks the revelation of Jesus to the Gentiles through the visit of the three wise men (Western Christianity) and the first presentation to the world of Jesus, the Son of God, at His baptism in the River Jordan (Eastern Christianity). What a great way to start the year – anticipating and celebrating sudden, great revelations and realizations.

But we don’t need to wait for January 6th to have an epiphany. As we walk with Jesus daily, and break open the Word together with Him, the Spirit of revelation and Truth will meet each of us in greater measure today and all throughout the year!

Pray this prayer from Ephesians 1:17-21 TPT...

I pray that the Father of glory, the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, would impart to me the riches of the Spirit of wisdom and the Spirit of revelation to know Him through my deepening intimacy with Him.

I pray that the light of God will illuminate the eyes of my imagination, flooding me with light, until I experience the full revelation of the hope of His calling—that is, the wealth of God’s glorious inheritances that He finds in me, His holy one!

I pray that I will continually experience the immeasurable greatness of God’s power made available to me through faith. Then my life will be an advertisement of this immense power

as it works through me! This is the mighty power that was released when God raised Christ from the dead and exalted Him to the place of highest honor and supreme authority in

the heavenly realm!
