Trusting God

Today I want to write on “Trusting God”. Remember the hymn, Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus.

Here are the lyrics of a song that we have sung since it was written in 1882.

‘Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus

Just to take Him at his Word

Just to rest upon his promise

Just to know, “Thus saith the lord!”

Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him,

How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er

Jesus, Jesus precious Jesus,

Oh, for grace to trust Him more.

I’m so glad I learned to trust Him!

Precious Jesus, Saviour, Friend

And I know that He is with me

Will be with me to the end.

Oh, how sweet to trust in Jesus,

Just to trust His cleansing blood

And in simple faith to plunge me

Neath the healing, cleansing flood!”

Yes, ‘tis sweet to trust in Jesus

Just from sin and self to cease

Just from Jesus simply taking

Life and rest and joy and peace.

This is just a simple song, with a simple tune. However the words are very powerful!

Wow! To walk in this kind of trust. What a well of experience and trust the songwriters must have had inside of them. Even more today, as we are preparing to enter into 2021, must we trust in Jesus. He is our only hope. As the song says we need to trust in His Word. God’s Word is truth. We need to stand on His Word and not be moved. The song goes on to say, how I’ve proved Him over and over. Wherever you are today and whatever circumstances you find yourself in you will see that it is always an opportunity for Jesus to prove His love to you, to prove is faithfulness to you and to prove His promises to you. Jesus is our hope!

To not trust is totally hopeless. Unfortunately, that is where most of the world is today. As believers, we trust Jesus for our lives. He continues to show up and show His faithfulness to us with answered prayers, and meeting our needs, and fulfilling our desires. We get to prove him over and over. We get to show the world by our love and our faith that Jesus is alive today.

In a world where there is so much fear, our lives are able to reflect lives of rest, joy and peace which come from God as we learn to trust Him. Oh, for grace to trust Him more. That is my prayer for you today. That you would have the grace to trust God in all that you are feeling and going through.

May you experience His rest, joy and peace as we prepare in the following weeks to enter into 2021.
